To help inspire your next magical stay, we’ve rounded up five stylish boutique hotels in the Willamette Valley—along with suggestions for making the most of your adventure.
Independence Hotel
At the eastern edge of Independence, where the cozy community reaches the Willamette River, The Independence Hotel delivers a comfortable stay inspired by its scenic surroundings. The four-story hotel is home to a rooftop patio that looks out over the Willamette River—keep an eye out for herons, ospreys, and eagles below—and decorates each of its rooms with works crafted by local artists. Downstairs, the on-site Territory dishes seasonal fare with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
Cyclists, in particular, appreciate The Independence Hotel’s bike-friendly amenities—which include wide hallways that make it easy to move bicycles around, in-room storage for at least two bicycles, and indoor and outdoor stations for maintenance, cleaning, and repair. The Dundee Hotel
Enjoy an Oregon Wine Country experience without ever leaving the property when you book a night or weekend at The Dundee Hotel in its namesake community. The inn’s 22 rooms feature works from Willamette Valley artists and come with wine glasses and bottle openers; the on-site Wooden Heart restaurant serves pasta and brick oven pizza; and a handful of tasting rooms pour selections from some of the Willamette Valley’s top wineries.
Round out your stay with wildlife-watching, hiking trails, and other outdoor activities in the Willamette Valley, and consider taking a day trip around nearby McMinnville and Newberg for a deeper dive into the region’s storied wine scene.
The Inn at Dayton
One of the Willamette Valley’s newest hotels is The Inn at Dayton, a 12-room boutique in the heart of its namesake community. The hotel occupies a trio of refurbished brick buildings that date back to 1911, bringing the space to life with comfortable rooms, an airy lounge, and a partially shaded patio ringed by hanging plants. Each stay includes free breakfast delivered to your door each morning, as well as in-room fireplaces and wine refrigerators.
If you’re hungry, a number of restaurants reside within a block of two of the inn; a few highlights include Juanita's Cafe y Neveria (dishing fresh Mexican fare), Loam (serving Pacific Northwestern fare with farm-fresh ingredients), and Camino (offering a variety of Mexican classics for brunch and lunch).
Amity Flats
The small hamlet of Amity sits just 10 minutes from McMinnville, as well as 25 minutes from Newberg and Salem—which makes it the perfect homebase for enjoying the Willamette Valley’s acclaimed attractions, restaurants, and wineries. On your next trip through the area, make Amity Flats your home away from home.
The five-room inn resides in a former Masonic lodge that dates back to 1905 and has been updated with fully stocked kitchens (available in four of the five rooms), French Press coffee makers, a rooftop terrace, and secure bike storage. Other local touches include a complimentary bottle of wine with each stay and fudge or chocolate from The Brigittine Monks.
Away from the hotel, consider taking a road trip on Highway 99W, which cuts through Amity and heads past some of Oregon Wine Country’s top sites and attractions. Amity Flats is also about 15 minutes from Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge, one of three national wildlife refuges in the Willamette Valley.
The Gordon Hotel
Enjoy an urban stay in the heart of Eugene at The Gordon Hotel, which hosts 82 stylish rooms next door to the 5th Street Public Market. The artsy inn offers spacious suites with in-room fireplaces and private decks—alongside amenities that include loaner cruiser bikes, Oregon-made tea and coffee in each room, and numerous works by local artists. Grab a meal in the first-floor eatery or the rooftop taqueria—and keep an eye out for the hotel's Prohibition era-inspired speakeasy.
